We started building Slay when our founder's account on a certain "gram suffixed" internet site was banned for the second time. All of that hard work building her account on that site was poof! gone and there was nothing she could do about it. It was a depressing blow and just one of many examples of the difficulty of promoting her style of content. On other sites she was shadowbanned or treated like shit by basement dwelling subreddit moderators or just having trouble gaining traction in a content format very much unlike the type of content she is known for producing.
There had to be a better alternative. There had to be some sort of midpoint between the Instagrams and Twitters of the world and the fan sites and other places she was selling content. There had to be some place where fans and creators could find each other and connect. So we sketched out some ideas and six months later here we are!
Slay is a site where content creators can promote themselves and their content in a safe, nonjudgemental environment. A site where they don't have to worry about shadow bans, abrupt account cancellations for arbitrary reasons, overzealous mods, agency scammers, fake accounts and the myriad of other bullshit our founder had to put up with trying to get her content in front of some eyeballs.
Slay is not trying to be a fans site in the purest sense of the word. We don't provide direct commerce meaning we don't process payments for subscripts or content, however we do provide tools to facilitate similar functionality with the commerce part being handled offline by creators if they want to. You would still use Slay, as a creator, alongside whatever fan sites you use to sell content and subscriptions and other services. We consider Slay complementary to those services.
One last note, everyone that has worked on Slay so far has been a creator themselves in one way or another. Our founder is still on ManyVids!
